Predicts 2021: Corporate Legal and Compliance Technology

According to Gartner, "The COVID-19 pandemic has altered the trajectory of technology adoption in legal departments. Rather than scrambling to catch up, application leaders responsible for legal and compliance technology must build a strategy that addresses pain points on the path to better legal and business outcomes."

Key findings from the report:

  • "Legal departments will increase spending on technology to reduce dependency on outside counsel, address COVID-19 and satisfy a long overdue need to modernize, digitize and automate legal work.
  • Capitalizing on the increased technology investment will require more than just selecting applications and platforms.
  • While hiring more attorneys might once have been the preferred approach to cope with excess work, many companies now hire more technology experts dedicated to legal. And these technical experts are less likely to be lawyers than they were two years ago."
